More Underwater Videos AvailableSubmitted by prteam on Tue, 07/01/2008 - 11:23.
CUAUV has released more underwater videos from pool tests in Teagle Pool. They are available on our underwater video page here. In the future, more videos will be uploaded to this page directly. Video from Triton Pool TestSubmitted by prteam on Fri, 06/27/2008 - 13:18.
A new video from the downward camera on Triton while it runs a completely autonomous practice mission in the Teagle Pool has been released. The mission being run starts with a zigzag search until the pipe is found. Once found, the vehicle centers itself over the pipe. Once the pipe is centered in frame, the vehicle grabs the heading and follows it. After the second pipe, the vehicle takes off for the safe (which you can't see in the downward camera). The video can be seen on youtube and is embedded below. For a higher-resolution version (4.5 MB), click here.
Improved Underwater ImagingSubmitted by prteam on Wed, 06/25/2008 - 15:19.
After CUAUV adjusted the focus and aperture of the vehicle's camera, Triton was able to obtain many new and improved images of various competition elements. Pictured on the left is an old Triton image of the spade box. The picture on the right is an improved photo of the same box. To see more photos, visit the Underwater Pictures Image Gallery. CUAUV is very excited about the success of last week's pool tests. Early in the week, missions were run to use the altimeters to "bounce" off of the walls, and to hover over pipes and then follow the headings. The team also tested a second pipe finding vision algorithm which yielded promising results. Gathered categorized test images will also be beneficial for developing more vision algorithms in the coming weeks. CUAUV Talks to Cornell AlumniSubmitted by prteam on Fri, 06/06/2008 - 21:29.
On Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7, CUAUV participated in the "All-Alumni Affair" held in Barton Hall. The event is part of Cornell's annual Reunion Weekend, which brings over 6,500 alumni back to campus every year. Pictured above, Sam Fladung and Kirill Kalinichev discuss CUAUV and Triton with an alumnus. First Triton Pool TestSubmitted by prteam on Wed, 05/21/2008 - 15:34.
On Sunday, May 11, CUAUV ran its first powered water test of the 2008 competition vehicle Triton. During its entire duration in the Teagle Hall pool, the vehicle was able to move under its own power. Preliminary control tests also yielded promising results. Minor problems with the motor controllers were identified during the run, and have since been fixed. The team is very excited to build on this success! New Pod BoardsSubmitted by prteam on Sat, 05/17/2008 - 15:06.
Team members Kirill Kalinichev and Peter Sullivan display Triton's new battery pod boards. The boards function in monitoring and battery safety. Unlike the boards for last year's vehicle, these boards will be positioned on the top of the rack. This ensures that the boards will not be damaged if a leak occurs in the battery pod. 2008 CUAUV Team PictureSubmitted by prteam on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 22:18.
